How Swiss Echo Lab handles submitted text, analysis and feedback.

Swiss Echo Lab is designed as a language-learning and linguistic analysis tool. Please do not submit confidential, personal or sensitive information.
When you type text into Swiss Echo Lab, that text is sent to two external services for processing.
Plapperi (plapperi.ch) translates the text into Zürich German and synthesises audio where applicable. According to Plapperi's published Terms of Service, submitted text is stored only temporarily during processing and is not used to train machine learning models.
OpenAI provides the word-shift analysis. The High German and Zürich German text pair is sent to OpenAI's API. OpenAI does not use API inputs for model training by default. Inputs may be retained by OpenAI for a short period for abuse monitoring purposes.
Text you submit is retained by Swiss Echo Lab for up to 30 days and is then automatically deleted.
Anonymous linguistic observations, such as word transformation pairs, rule evidence and aggregated statistics, may be retained to improve the Swiss Echo rule engine. These records do not contain the original submitted text or translation.
When audio is generated, the text is sent to Plapperi.
Audio for the built-in example texts is part of the product.
Audio generated from text you submit is held in server memory only to fulfil your request. It is not written to disk and is not retained after the request has completed.
The server logs each request with its HTTP method and URL path. Request bodies are not logged.
These logs are retained by the hosting platform for up to seven days.
A rate limit applies to translation requests. IP addresses used for rate limiting are held in server memory only and are not written to the database or included in logs.
If you submit feedback through the feedback form, the following information is collected and stored:

No cookies are set. Swiss Echo Lab does not use browser analytics. For each valid translation request, the server adds one attempt and one outcome (success or failure) to a UTC daily total. These aggregate totals are retained indefinitely. The counters do not store individual events, submitted or translated text, content hashes, IP addresses, user agents, headers, referrers, sessions, visitors, devices, or locations.
